Title: Studies on Transport of Trifluralin in Different Agricultural Management Systems

Cooperators: Y. Liu, R. Taylor, A. Manu, D. Bosch, and T. Steenhuis.

Problem:
Transport of volatilized pesticides and other organic vapors from soil to atmosphere has caused public concern regarding air pollution. Existing studies of gas phase transport through soil either do not consider advective gas flux or use inaccurate models for the advective gas flux. These simplifications may underestimate the potential risk of volatilized pesticides and other organic vapors to air pollution.

Approach:
Gas transport in a field soil will be modeled using a 2-phase model. The advective gas flux will be estimated by considering simultaneous movement of water and gas phases through soil. The goal of the study is to contribute fundamental knowledge about gas transport in soil.

Results:
This study has just begun and no results are currently available.
