Answer to Risk Index Exercise 2

Numbers in parentheses indicate the index value associated with that particular factor.

Answer 2: Planting Georgia Green (20) between April 22 and 28 (15) with a population of 4.5 plants per foot of row (5) without phorate (15) with single row patterns (15) and conventional tillage (15) would give him an index total of 85 points which places him in the Moderate Risk Category. Planting FL MDR-98 (20) between May 5 and May 12 (5) with a final stand of 1.5 plants per foot of row (25) without phorate (15) with single row patterns (15) and conventional tillage (15) would give him an index total of 95 points which still places him in the Moderate Risk Category, but at a slightly higher risk than with his Georgia Green field. Therefore, he might expect greater problems with spotted wilt in his FL MDR-98 field.
Good Luck!
